Here's more: "ARTS is an unusual septin-like mitochondrial protein that was originally shown to mediate TGF-beta-induced apoptosis." - The mitochondrial ARTS protein promotes apoptosis through targeting XIAP http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC391065/?tool=pubmed
