Dickson Despommier is the Emeritus Professor of Public Health and Microbiology at Columbia University and the co-host of This Week in Virology. The vertical farming concept grew out of a medical ecology course he taught in 1999. Articles about the subject have been published in The New York Times, U.S. News & World Report, Popular Science, Scientific American and Maxim.
