The mosquito - spreader of VEE: Venezuelan equine encephalitis, which afflicts not only horses, donkeys, zebras, & other equine species, but immuno-suppressed human beings as well. First identified in the 1930's, VEE is seen mostly in the lower reaches of the United States & Central/South America. Interestingly, it was the subject of intensive research by the U.S. bio-warfare program during the Cold War, resulting in a weaponized version by the time that program came to an end in 1969.
