Authorities scramble to contain outbreak of Legionnaires’ disease in Quebec City

The fatal outbreak of Legionnaire’s disease in Quebec City continued Sunday, as officials are reporting two additional deaths linked to the bacterial infection.

At least 104 people have been infected and eight killed in what has been the deadliest outbreak of Legionnaire’s disease in Canada in 25 years.

On Sunday, authorities from the city’s public health board said the 69 cooling towers believed to be behind the outbreak have been disinfected. But more cases of the infection are expected to surface throughout the week, officials said.

Health Minster Yves Bolduc announced on Friday that the government would implement long-delayed regulations to prevent the spread of the killer bug in office ventilation systems.
