To beat toxic bacteria, break up their party

Bacteria communicate to decide when they have enough density to produce toxins together effectively—a finding that could help beat infections.

Researchers in the University of Nottingham have shown for the first time that the effectiveness of the bacteria’s communication method, a process called “quorum sensing”, directly depends on the density of the bacterial population.
