UCLA Pioneering Microbiology Educator and Author Discusses Innovative Teaching Methods

Image
In this monthly interview series, meet Erin Sanders-Lorenz, an Adjunct Assistant Professor in the Department of Microbiology, Immunology, & Molecular Genetics at UCLA , co-author of the new book, "I, Microbiologist: A Discovery-based Course in Microbial Ecology and Molecular Evolution" and a leader in the development of novel education programs for undergraduates.

Erin talks about the teaching methods she uses to introduce the scientific method to new students and get them excited about microbiology. With hands-on based courses that use the most cutting edge technologies, students learn how to build critical thinking skills and ask the right questions when reading about scientific studies.

The book, a curriculum based guide for teaching microbiology labs, is published by ASM and available later this month at http://estore.asm.org/viewItemDetails.asp?ItemID=859
