My new paper in Nature (using a Creative Commons license so anyone has access to it) on a "Phylogeny Driven Genomic Encyclopedia of Bacteria and Archaea." In this paper we describe our project to fill in the gaps in the tree of life (of bacteria and archaea" with genome sequences and thus correct a large bias in the currently available genomes. We report some novel findings as well as analysis that shows that selecting organisms that are distantly related from anything that has had its genome already sequenced is very beneficial for many purposes.
