ASM Video 1: Great Basin Mold Project

This video was made by the students in Introduction to Microbiology Lab, MICR 276L, University of Nevada, Reno. This is the first semester for a new undergraduate major in Microbiology at UNR. As a class project, students began to survey the desert Great Basin environment to identify the endemic fungi. No survey has been done in the Great Basin to date. This project will continue for several semesters. The culmination will be a reference that will contain images of fungi on plates, micrographs of the organisms and the corresponding molecular identification. The basic science can then be made available to the public and may help provide better treatment strategies for patients who suffer from mold allergies.
