Interview of Dr. Zakaria Ahmed (The Shining star of Bangladesh)

I am International Outreach Coordinator of We The Microbiologist, a group to outreach the excellence and passion for Microbiology. I communicated Dr. Zakira Ahmad, for a formal interaction to discuss his excellence. I am glad beyond expectation that I had been called to his home with a warm welcome. I with Mr. M.H. Magnet reached his house and come out with some points of struggle behind this successful scientist. He is not only the asset of Bangladesh, but also for Asia and World.

Dr. Zakaria Ahmed is known as beacon light to his student for his excellence, Behavior and dedication.

Dr. Zakaria Ahmed was born in 1970 in an aristocratic Muslim family in dohar, Dhaka. He is the smallest among the four brothers. He completed S.S.C successfully from UDAYAN BIDDALAYA, Dhaka and H.S.C from Dhaka collage. Then he completed his BACHELOR’S DEGREE from the dept. of Microbiology in Dhaka University in 1993 and the post graduation in 1995. He obtained doctorate degree in 2000 from EHIME UNIVERSITY in JAPAN. His thesis of Ph.D is “PRODUCTION OF VARIOUS RARE ALDOPENTOSES FROM D-GLUCOSE BY MICROBIAL AND ENZYMATIC METHODS”. He obtained JSPS fellowship from National Food Research Institute, Japan as a post doctoral researcher. He carried out under the project entitled “preparation of chimeric enzyme by DNA shuffling on identification and activity of enzyme isolates from Xanthomonas sp ” .His overall academic record was excellent since his earlier education with many Award.

Dr. Zakaria Ahmed started his successful carrier in Bangladesh Jute Research Institute as a scientific officer and worked there from 1996-2003.He worked here to develop the mixed microbial inoculum for the acceleration of retting speed and production of good quality jute and allied fiber. In 1998 he joined kagawa university, Japan as a Teaching and Research Assistant in the faculty of Agriculture. On return to Bangladesh he joined Primeasia University as an Assistant Professor in 2007.Then He became a senior lecturer in universiti teknologi mara Malaysia (UiTM). Now he is again an Associate professor in the Dept. of microbiology in Primeasia University.

Beside his excellent research work, Dr. Zakaria Ahmed is associated with many international associations and forum .He is also the member of American society for microbiology USA, Canadian society for microbiologist. In his professional life he is the editorial board member of 5 International journals. More than his 50 research paper published in many international and local journals. Dr. Zakaria Ahmed was also invited as an expert in Annual review committee meeting of Bangladesh jute Research institute, Bangladesh. Dr. Zakaria Ahmed is leading directly many Thesis Project in Primeasia University.

WTM-Bangladesh congratulates Dr. Zakaria Ahmed on his success and wishes a long life for him to develop the field of Microbiology.
